Testimonies from our community

  • It’s probably the only shop I’ve ever felt comfortable letting my toddler roam in. We are always welcomed warmly and encouraged to stay even if we aren’t buying anything that day. I love seeing lots of different people from diverse backgrounds hanging out there. A safe and welcoming space. A true community hub.

  • when i first moved to Folkestone last year, my mental health wasn’t great and i felt quite isolated. it was on a walk I finally plucked up the courage to head inside Folkestone book shop and was immediately met with kindness and a very thorough book recommendation, which i asked for nervously. since I bought that book, i fell back in love with reading after months of not being able to pick a book up from grief. it was a really special moment for me and i look back at it fondly every time i see that book I bought

  • Not sure I can do this justice! The Folkestone Bookshop is the bookshop of my dream. Not only does it have an incredible range of books, and the loveliest booksellers who are always up for book chat and have incredible recommendations, it's a place of community. Welcoming, inclusive, caring, a place that celebrates and encourages creativity in so many ways, and wears its ethics on its sleeves. When I was a kid, I longed for a place like this - and now my own kids get to experience that. So very glad for this place, these lovely people and the impact they're having on our community.

  • I’m a foster carer to a young person who is anxious in public spaces. We frequently go to the bookshop as it is a place that they feel safe, calm and can relax, and I come to buy books, new and second-hand.

  • Whenever I feel lonely and need to be in a kinder, more thoughtful and more generous kind of place, I go to The Folkestone Bookshop.
