Ways to support us*
*also applicable to other indie businesses!

Likes, shares, and comments on posts can help us reach a larger audience and grow our network.
Giving us a positive review online, whether on a public site like Google or on your personal blog, helps hugely!
Also: remember to tag us or add us as your location when sharing photos of your books or of the shop.
-
Don’t gatekeep us!
If you got a great book recommendation from us, or you just love the shop, tell as many people as you can to spread the word; it’s the same as leaving a positive review online but word-of-mouth recommendations are often more trusted. The more people who know about and frequent us, the more sustainable the shop is.

We offer as many of our events as possible for free and the more successful our events are, the bigger and cooler events we will be able to host in the future.
There’s no pressure to spend money while at our events, but if we can show off Folkestone’s thriving creativity then we will have a positive feedback loop to invite more speakers here.

We sometimes accept donations of secondhand books, which helps us ensure we have books that are financially accessible – make sure to email us or ask in person before bringing down your offerings though!
We have a pay-it-forward scheme where your spare change could go towards helping someone get a brand new book - you can read more about this and donate online here.
And you can donate money or refreshments for our reading room - from teabags and instant coffee to biscuits and snacks, it is all appreciated!

The people who run small businesses are often putting in ridiculous hours to keep their shops open and functioning. Taking extra care and extra thought when you interact with us and utilise these spaces can make a world of difference to the people behind them.
Simple acts like putting your rubbish in the bin, setting back up anything that has been knocked over, offering to bring a parcel in - these sort of kind gestures will make someone’s day and conserve their energy for other important tasks!
-
This may seem obvious but every time you spend money with us (whether that’s a 50p secondhand book, a local artist’s work or a brand new hardback) you are securing our place on your high street.
There are mainstream retailers who can offer books cheaper than we even buy them in, but supporting them just contributes to their exploitative labour practices and unethical business models.
The more you support us, the more we can give back!
